Avatar: The Last Airbender is centered around the last airbender, Aang. In the first episode of the show Aang is found in an iceberg by two children from the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka and Katara. Sokka, fifteen, and his sister Katara, fourteen year old waterbender, are the oldest children from the Southern Water Tribe. Their parents and all of the known waterbenders were taken out by the Fire Nation raids. Sokka and Katara have always lived in a time of war sense the Fire Nation attacked 100 years before and are tiring to conquer the world. The only reason the war has gone on for so long is because the avatar vanished when the attacks first happened. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M44Dz-lNi0 - When Katara and Sokka found Aang. ) There are three seasons of “ATLA” all of which are surrounded by what element Aang, the avatar, is learning to master. The first season is Water where Aang, Katara, and Sokka leave the Southern Water Tribe for the Northern Water Tribe in search of a waterbending master to teach Aang and Katara waterbending. The second season is Earth where they find a earthbender named Toph. Toph is a twelve year old girl who is blind and overprotected by her rich parents. Toph leaves with Aang, Katara, and Sokka to teach Aang earthbending. The last season of ATLA is called Fire. In this season Aang learns fire and faces the Fire Lord in a huge battle. Avatar: The Last Airbender is a great show for kids but anyone can enjoy watching the show. Team Avatar, Aang and his friends, go on many adventures and help so many people along the way. This cartoon is a learning tool with a fun story to it. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJUgCzEdx9k - intro to ATLA)

Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra are cartoons created by Nickelodeon. Avatar: The Last Airbender first aired in 2005 and then Legend of Korra was released in 2012. Both shows are set in the same world. “ATLA” (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and “LOK” (Legend of Korra) are both centered around the life of the Avatar. The Avatar is the bridge between the physical world and the spirit world, they can also bend all four elements: earth, fire, air and water. In the avatar world there are four different nations, each of which is related to the four elements.
The largest of the nations is the Earth Kingdom which is run by the Earth King and has an amazingly huge capital, Ba Sing Se. The nation which presents itself with the most power is the Fire Nation and is run by the Fire Lord. Located in the north and south pole is the Water Tribe which are run by tribal chiefs. The Water Tribe considers themselves two halves of a whole, the Northern Water Tribe and the Southern Water Tribe. The Air Nomads consider themselves one of the most peaceful nations. There are three different places that the Air Nomads live: Northern Air Temple, Eastern Air Temple, and Southern Air Temple. A Council of Four Elders runs each Air Temple. But not every single person in the avatar world can bend the element of their nation. People that can’t bend any element are called non-benders. “ATLA” and “LOK” both have several strong, independent characters that don’t have bending but still help others in every way they can. Overall, the Avatar world is as complex as the real world. The Avatar goes through struggles and learning just like anyone else. |
